How to Fix Cordless Power Tools Batteries ?
Many cordless tools use batteries made up of Nickle Cadmium which you will see abbreviated both NiCd and NiCad. Over time the Power Tools Batteries will loose their ability to hold charges because of the crystals inside growing together and becoming larger and decreasing their surface area. To prevent this, only charge your batteries the minimum time and only charge them a few hours before you will need them. Here is how you can recondition your batteries back to brand new condition or even better.
Instructions:
1:First you need to find out what side is which on your battery. Use a voltmeter to decided the positive and negative side. If you don't have one: the positive side is usually gold and the negative is silver.
2:You will need to use two 12v car battery now. Running batteries in series is perfectly safe if you do it correctly in DC batteries. See the diagram to know how to properly set up your batteries. There is no chance of harming your battery!
3:Now you have a 24 volt system ready to charge your battery. Connect the negative from your battery series to the negative on your tools battery. Now your going to zap your battery multiple times per second. If you have a 12v battery, do this for ruffly 8 or 9 seconds. For 24v, do it for about 12 seconds. Make sure you are removing it completely and reestablishing the charge 2-3 times per second.
4:Now allow it to cool for 20 minutes. After that, put it onto your tool battery charger for 15 minutes. Take it off the charger and let it sit for about a hour. Test the battery to see if it is holding a proper charge. If it hasn't then you can repeat the zapping many more times to brake the crystals inside. Remember to allow 20 minutes of cooling time between sessions.
