What are DECT phones? They are wireless phones that are connected through one base station. Walking around without being attached to a cord, they will typically work up to approximately 300 meters. In addition, the use of more than one handset that can be used in other rooms of the home or office are available as well.

The Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) technology was originally developed as an answer for businesses that needed to have many phone lines and intercom capabilities in the phone lines. The mobility of a cordless phone is a necessity today. The merger of DECT and EPBX systems has made it possible for big businesses to take advantage of DECT as well as small offices and having it in your home as well.

The cordless phone gave everyone the option of being able to move around while having their conversations. The DECT phone is an advanced cordless phone. The way they work, despite any apparent complexity, is actually quite simple. One type of signal changes to anther and the incoming signal when the phone rings is recorded by the base station of the DECT phone. It is then converted to a radio signal and then into sound waves by the decoder.

The DECT phone is replacing cordless phones in every way. The phones themselves are light weight phones; they look terrific especially when compared to the cordless phone. They are available in more colours and have 3G technology. The features are comparable to those found with cordless phones - caller ID, great range and sound quality, a display screen and very good battery back-up - are all aspects of the DECT phone.

Using several different handsets in an office allows communication within different parts of the building. They are being used in shops, houses, businesses and practically anywhere a telephone can be used. The convenience of being able to talk to each other over the telephone's intercom system within the same home is a big advantage especially if the home is very large.

For now, DECT phones are a little pricey but as with everything, as they become more popular and are introduced to more work places the price will lower. The DECT models are already being enhanced with the addition of error correction frequency. This allows the transmission quality to be improved as well as extending the range.

The DECT Plus technology stops interference from other networks. In addition, there is one now that has the Intelligent Eco Mode, which mean while being used close to the base the telephone conserves energy and reduces the amount of time needed for recharging.

There are many DECT phones that feature the base station and several handsets. There may even be one that is waterproof for used outdoors around the pool. The typical set you will see for purchase is the base and one handset. However, they are available in 2, 3, 4 and more handsets to be placed in areas where it is convenient for those who may be working there. Intercom features are a terrific way of sharing a telephone.
