Do You Really Need Fancy Cordless Drills?
Everyday we are on the job at a remodeling project, we use a lot of power tools. The one tool that is used the most is our cordless drills. Some days when we are working on decks, those drills are constantly being used and the batteries are constantly being charged. Through experience we've found the DeWalt is the most dependable and most reliable.
Know there are a lot of people who claim that Panasonic or Makita are the best and I'm not going to dispute that, I just know that some people like Fords and others like Chevy's. It comes down to who and what the owner of that particular piece of equipment likes. And the "like" is from experience. My experience is with DeWalt's but that doesn't mean they are the best to you, it just means we have had great experiences with DeWalt. Dewalt DW9096 battery.
Now, for homeowners sake, here are my tips for purchasing a cordless drill.
1. I wouldn't spend an arm or a leg for a drill that will only be used once or twice a month for maybe 2 hours.
2. Brand doesn't make a difference if the company has a warranty.
3. Batteries are your problem, they wear out over time and if you can't find a replacement or even if you do find a replacement it might not be worth the price because you can get a new one for a few dollars more.
4. If you consider cordless drills as "disposable" then you'll find yourself shopping for price instead of features.
5. If you are doing heavy duty work, consider a corded drill because they have more power.
6. Watch the ad's of your hardware store's they always have a promo cordless drill on sale.
Last year my cordless drill battery died on me. I went back to the place that I purchased it from and they didn't have anymore. I searched online and found a replacement but they wanted $60 for the darn thing. So, I watched the ad's and found a Ryobi 18V for $39.99. There was no way I would purchase a battery when I could get a new one for $20 less. This Ryobi uses 18V batteries and the charge time is around 2 hours. Perfect for me at home here. I have a heavy duty job I always pull out the corded drills or use the cordless drills from my friends construction business. Just depends on how far away I am from the power source because I hate using extension cords unless I have to. makita 1422 battery.
Motto of story: if you want to pay the price for top of the line cordless drills or lithium ion drills go ahead. They are usually lighter drills and much easier on the body if you use them a long period of time during the day. Also a lot of them come with a clip on attachment that makes it really nice to carry on your tool belt. If you just need a drill to do simple drilling or screwing then go the cheap route and watch the ad's because you can find a promo drill that will be a lot cheaper and last just about as long. If they don't work out, take it back to the store and get a refund.
Now, if you are working in construction, then spend the time to find a drill with power, torque and dependability. They will run you around $200 but they are work horses and they last as long as you can find replacement batteries. Most professionals purchase additional batteries to make sure they never run out of juice on the job.
