Oilfield and gas drill bit keychains have been around since the late 1930's and have evolved a great deal. The original oil and gas keychain gifts were modeled after a bicone oil well drill bit. These miniature oilfield drill bits were hand machined from brass and then nickel and gold plated. Then in later years with the introduction of the tricone bit to the oil and gas drilling industries the oilfield keychain replicas were adapted to the new tricone version also.

 

Now some 60 years later it is possible to find many different types and styles of oilfield drill bit keychains.
