Initially the mobility of cordless phones was limited by the range of the signal transmitted between the unit's base station and the handset; so many conversations would be broken off in mid-flow as the reception was lost, suddenly and without warning. But as the number and capabilities of satellites and transmitters have grown and improved, they have become widely accepted as the most convenient way of communicating instantly from anywhere. And as mobile phones themselves have become an integral part of our everyday lives, we now expect to have the same mobility whenever we take or make a call in the office or at home.

Many users especially appreciate the ability to run several handsets off a single base station, or the flexibility to add extra base stations in other rooms in the house. It means that the days of trudging downstairs to answer the phone from the bedroom are definitely consigned to the past.

And for people who are not as well organised as they could be, having a cordless phone is a great boon. Long-suffering partners or family members no longer need to turn the house upside-down in search of that elusive piece of paper on which those important contact details were written.
